I must have been very ambitious as a child. I remember one of my goals in life was to have a doll named after me. One day, I would own my very own factory producing Trissa Dolls. They would look exactly like me but in order to increase sales, I would sell Trissa Doll dresses as well – including of course a gymnastic costume, wedding gown, cooking outfit and so on. Then I would branch out in to producing dolls to resemble my sisters, brother, Mum and Dad – and maybe even our dog as well. I guess it was my way of putting my mark on the world! 🙂 As I got older, my passion for dolls died down and my great ambition of a Trissa Dolls empire was forgotten…
That is… of course… until I made I made this month’s Daring Bakers Challenge. The challenge the brainchild of Aparna and Deeba and truth be told, I was intimidated to work on this challenge considering the number of components that we had to make from scratch – including the mascarpone, Zabaglione and the savoiardi biscuits! All in all, a two day process for me! A dash of encouragement and inspiration from Ellie was exactly what I needed to push me over the line.
But how could I make it “mine”?
I wanted to put my own spin to the tiramisu – so I sandwiched the zabaglione in chocolate flavoured savoiardi biscuits then coated the “cookie” in chocolate and chopped hazelnuts and dubbed them the Trissamisu! Just like me – far from perfect, quirky and slightly nutty… but uhmmm… Trissalicious nonetheless!
The February 2010 Daring Bakers’ challenge was hosted by Aparna of My Diverse Kitchen and Deeba of Passionate About Baking. They chose Tiramisu as the challenge for the month. Their challenge recipe is based on recipes from The Washington Post, Cordon Bleu at Home and Baking Obsession.
- The Tiramisu recipe can be found here: Daring Bakers Tiramisu.
- For my chocolate Savoiardi I added 2 tablespoons dutch processed cocoa powder to the recipe above. Mark the baking paper into the shape you are going to use (I used 5cm round cookie cutters). Pipe the batter using the markings as a guide. Bake as per the instructions.
- To shape the tiramisu, lay some cling film over the kitchen counter and then lay some savoiardi over cling film, then top with some zabaglione, top with another savoiardi and quickly cover the “cookie” with the rest of the cling film. Freeze for an hour or two to set.
For the hazelnut and chocolate coating recipe as follows:
- 3/4 cup toasted and peeled hazelnuts, chopped
- 300 grams milk or dark chocolate, chopped
- 3 tablespoons canola oil
- Melt the chocolate over a double boiler.
- When completely melted, add the chopped nuts and the canola oil.
- Remove the tiramisu from the freezer and using two forks, cover the tiramisu in the melted chocolate.
- Lay over a baking sheet with cling film and return to the freezer to allow to harden.

Fantastic! What an original take on tiramisu. Now, I think you’re onto a good thing here. There’s is money to be made. Think of the different flavours you could go with. This is it and with an original name to boot. Can’t you see it up in lights TRISSAMISU! Beautiful!
You could just freeze this and it becomes tirasimu ice cream…. And what a dream – Trissa Dolls. I like that.
Good gracious, I don’t know where to begin! These are amazing and so very Trissalicious. Instead of saying more, let me just go back up and stare at the photos . . .

Indeed a unique Tiramisu. You know, Trissa, these biscuit sized Trissa-misus can possibly be your next go at building your pastry empire. If you can freeze the biscuit or somehow solidify the chocolate, pack them individually and market them as snacks… aim to have this in every kid’s lunch box!
Oh boy… these look perfect! Heavenly may be the right description for these… yum!
Oh Trissa heehee the Trissamisu is looking rather good! I love anything covered in chocolate and this one, with the added hardwork of the different components of the tiramisu, definitely makes a very very special Trissamisu indeed!
I love that it’s called Trissamisu 🙂 It looks like a giant Tim Tam too, which can’t be a bad thing, surely.
I want a Trissa Doll! Pretty please =D.

Trissa misu? Tres (or should that be Triss) delicious (gave up trying to work out if I should use masculine or feminine french word here) ! Such a great idea – bite-size tiramisus, what’s not to like? Well done dearie.
Phew! So much work..I do like what you have done with the trissamisu! (cool name btw!)
I love your creativity. I bet no one had such unique and delicious spin on this challenge. Love every element of this!
Wow, those look amazing. They are almost like a twix bar, except much more sophisticated… and probably even more delicious. It’s tiramisu on the go!
Yummo! Now I am pretty sure you could give Arnotts a run for their money is you instead start a Trissamisu business empire. These remind me of Hedgehog biscuits – not sure they sell them anymore, but instead of custard in the middle, they had marshmallow.
My god these look so divine!
The only thing I want right now is to digg into your wonderfull trissamisu!
What a cool idea to coat the tiramisu with some chocolate. CoO0ooO000L!
Great take on the daring baker challenge! I love following these ’cause it’s so much fun to see what you all do. This is FABULOUS! Tiramisu in cookie form. Would much rather you were cooking these treats than making Trissa dolls!
Very nice work Trissa. I wanted to own my own airline when I was little!
This is so good! Individual portable tiramisu! Err, I mean, Trissamisu, sorry!
That title alone made my laugh Trissa!! Trissamisu! Fantastic and wow, fantastic they do look! Can you please send me some over?? Very original!
I loooove this! It’s a tiramisu to-go! Although I probably would be out of the house all day long just so I could pack as many of these in my bag! Really great idea.
Really nice variation of a classic. Things with a generous coating of chocolate are always good.
Oh Trissa you are a crack up. I want some Trissamisu please… They look delicious.
Wow, Trissa, you’ve made such a unique “Trissamisu”. Would you like to trademark and franchise your products? It could be a hit in Aussie market because my Aussie friends are crazy about choc snacks.
Fantastic work on this challenge! That is one creative tiramisu…not only innovative but incorporating 2 flavors near and dear to my heart = chocolate and hazelnuts! YUM!
Yum Yum Yum: Trissa you’re a genious! and your story is so funny… Next time in Australia I’ll ask you for a “Trissamisu”… Je veux goûter!

Gorgeous pictures. I loved co-hosting the challenge!
These pictures look so dangerous for me at this time of night. They are so tempting, but I’ve got to go to bed and shouldn’t eat anything. But I must try trissamisu soon.
What a brilliant idea! What a great name too – Trissamisu! Perhaps there may be a patent in there somewhere? Great job on the challenge. It certainly was a lot of fun!
lol at Trissamisu! Have you trademarked it yet? Looking at the pictures remind me of Magnum. I like how you add cocoa powder in the sponge fingers. It’s mega yum 🙂
This was a tough challenge, and you created an absolutely sensational trissamisu!
What a delightful idea, a Tiramisu cookie! NOw maybe you can start commercially producing these instead. I’m sure they would sell like hot cakes …er cookies! 🙂
Thanks for baking with us.
HEy TRISSA!!! =D You were definitely one super dooper ambitious child =p Haha I think when I was younger I just wanted to be a flight attendant so I could travel the world, hmm as I grew up, that ambition just died as well. I love the fact that you made the Tiramisu yours. It’s cool because it’s bite sized Tiramisu that you can give to people. Awesome job on your DBC, go the Trissamisu!
😀 Haha I love your story about the Trissa dolls, I would totally have bought one! Such a great idea to put it in a cookie sandwich, I love the shot of the cross section! It sounds devilishly good, and I’ve been craving a cookie sandwich like crazy recently. Also, Trissamisu is the best dessert name ever hahaha!
